Cork Craft Fun for Kids @ The New City Library

The endless amount of items that people throw away everyday include paper towel tubes, plastic cups and cork bottle stoppers. However these materials can be reused in other ways. Instructor Amina Chaudhri showed a group of kids at New City Library recently that cork stoppers are adaptable and have a texture that is easy to work with.

Chaudhri said, “The activity stimulated the kids’ creative abilities to make their individual chains using alphabet beads, screw eyes, corks and wire. In addition, the fine motor skills practiced included threading, knotting and cutting. The parents and children enjoyed spending time together and afterward had an opportunity to go to the children’s section and take out books.”

With cold winter temperatures outside, the cork craft workshop helped make indoor time a lot of fun. For future childrens’ programs access www.newcitylibrary.org
